Cozy Lakeside Wedding at Le Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant

Nestled among the changing leaves of Mont-Tremblant, this laid-back autumn wedding had all the ingredients of a weekend escape—cozy vibes, scenic views, and a whole lot of heart. Set at Le Grand Lodge, just a couple of hours north of Montreal, the day felt more like a relaxed getaway with friends than a formal affair. And that was exactly the point.

For Erika and David, it wasn’t about pulling off a perfectly choreographed event. It was about creating a warm, welcoming space where guests could kick back, enjoy the cottage-country atmosphere, and celebrate in a way that felt true to them. With everything happening on-site, no one had to worry about late-night drives or shuttles. Instead, guests could take in the lakeside view, sip cocktails by the fire, and head straight upstairs when the dancefloor finally gave out.

From the very beginning, the couple kept things personal. A mutual friend sparked their connection, and nearly five years later, the groom popped the question at home with rose petals, candles, and a dog in a tuxedo. That low-key, intimate energy flowed through the whole wedding day—whether it was their handwritten vows, the simple white florals, or the music that kept people dancing all night long.

A big thank you to Rob Malo for sharing the gorgeous video footage and to Tania Stratti for the photos.

This wedding proves you don’t need a plane ticket to create a destination feel. Sometimes, all it takes is the right spot up north, a few close friends, and a killer DJ to help bring it all together.

We asked the groom (yes, the groom this time!) to tell us more about their day.

Where did you get married, and why did you choose that venue?

We got married at Le Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant in Mont-Tremblant. Upon visiting the venue, we immediately felt the warm, rustic, country setting built into the hotel/wedding venue. Having always been drawn to the cottage life and growing up in such an environment, this venue allowed us to feel comfy and cozy, as well as well-equipped for the type of wedding we wanted to have, where people could come and enjoy themselves while being able to rest easy not having to drive home after. It allowed for our guests to experience a semi-vacation vibe while also being a part of our important day at a fraction of the cost it would be for a “true” destination wedding (even though we did have guests come from out of town for us).

How did your story begin, and how did you get to your wedding day?

We met through mutual friends at a cottage weekend away up in the Laurentians. Following our first encounter, there was a period of time where we did not speak or see each other, as our circle of friends was not that proximal. Upon me (the groom) speaking to our mutual friend, I discovered that my wife (not at the time) was available, and I immediately took action to get in touch with her, as she had made a lasting impression on me. We eventually went on our first date, which led to our second. We got to know each other and fell rapidly in love. I knew I loved her after two weeks due to our common interests and how much I enjoyed spending time with her. The feeling was mutual, and after nearly five years together, I proposed to her. We had finished a day of sanding and re-staining our backyard deck, and I couldn’t wait any longer to pop the question. I was filthy, waiting for my turn to shower. I quickly arranged some rose petals on our bed and dressed our dog in a kerchief-tuxedo as he lay on our bed. I lit a few heart-shaped candles, and as my (current) wife stepped out of the bathroom, hair dripping and all, I got down on one knee and asked if she’d spend her life with me. The intimacy of our home, the moment shared with our dog… it was far from elaborate, and it was absolutely perfect and beautiful. We had spent the next 16 months planning and preparing for our wedding, and in October 2024, we tied the knot.

Who designed the dress, and where did you find it?

Her dress was purchased at La Jolie Robe in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Made by Essence of Australia.

What made Erika fall in love with her dress?

The dress was perfect because it aligned with the style and design hoped for. It allowed the bride to feel comfortable and beautiful. It fit the theme of the wedding as well and, of course, was reasonably priced. One particularity desired of the dress was long sleeves, and it’s exactly what the bride was able to have.

Tell us about your photographer, and what did you think of their work?

Our photographer was Tania Stratti (@taniastrattiphoto – taniastratti.com). Tania was super hands-on and had also previously worked with our vendors. She was able to be very clear and detailed in how the day would unfold and how she would work with the other vendors to optimize our day. She also made suggestions about our first look to have better photo opportunities and to also enjoy more time with our guests. She also works with warm colours, which allowed for the ambiance of our venue and event to be highlighted naturally. Her efficiency and full-service business model made it an easy choice. Always available and never left us in the dark.

And what drew you to Rob, your videographer?

We had Rob Malo (@robmalofilms – www.robmalofilms.com or montrealweddingvideographer.com) as our videographer for our big day. He had previously worked with our photographer, and from our first video call with him, we knew he’d be a perfect fit for our vendor crew. He took so much time to walk us through his ideas and work with us on our vision. He was always available for us and never left us hanging for questions. Our videos from the wedding are available on his Instagram page.

Who styled your hair and makeup?

Hair stylist: Amer Sadiq
Makeup: Nathasha Pereira (@natasha_pereira_hmua)

What did the groom wear, and why did you choose it?

The groom wore a tan/beige 3-piece suit, as did his wedding party. It complemented the theme of the wedding, as well as offering the comfort-look of being up north in an easy-going cottage setting. It was also accented by the beautiful colours of the autumn leaves across the still lake in the background. The suits were rented from Moores.

Tell us about your flowers.

Florist: Atelier Floral Aurélie
We selected white flowers, something simple and romantic.

What was your wedding cake like?

We opted for a simple white cake with baby’s breath cascading down one side. It was for photo purposes, and we chose a flavour we both enjoy so we could take it home after. Our actual dessert for the meal portion of the service was more a sweets table style. It was created by Les Délices Lafrenaie Pointe-Claire.

What did you do for entertainment?

We worked with DJ Shane Oliveira. He took care of everything involving sound, from the ceremony to the reception. He helped coordinate the events of the evening and the order in which the reception unfolded. He kept things on track and lively the entire time. We consulted with him multiple times on his booth setup, photo booth, and took all our song requests into consideration and made it an incredible experience overall.

Who designed your stationery?

Menu design: Etsy
@isawthesignmtl printed our invitations, designed and printed the seating chart.
We designed our welcome sign and printed it at a local printing shop.

How did you style your venue?

We had a variety of round and rectangular tables covered in white tablecloths. We had bud vases, single white roses, and candles lining the table. Simple and romantic look.

Who walked you down the aisle?

Bride and groom: Mom and Dad walked us down the aisle. Felt like a dream come true to have both parents share the very final moments leading up to the union.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?

Bride: “You Are the Reason” (instrumental) by Daniel Jang
Groom: “Perfect” by Paul Hankinson

What can you share about your vows?

We made sure they were intimate and personal while appropriate for our loved ones to hear aloud. Comedic relief also incorporated during this emotional exchange.

Who officiated your wedding?

One of the groom’s childhood best friends officiated the wedding. He was someone we could count on to bring a personal touch to the ceremony while keeping it light and as brief as possible to allow the bride and groom to be the centre of attention on their day.

What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?

“How Long Will I Love You” by Ellie Goulding. It was a unique song that was easy to dance to, that made us feel close throughout the entire song (music and lyrics).

What was your favourite moment of the day?

It truly is a day that passes faster for the bride and groom than any other day of their lives. We couldn’t single out one moment over another that was more special than the rest, but there was an abundance of incredibly memorable moments throughout the day.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding?

Try not to stress about the small things, because the only thing people will remember is how good of a time they had celebrating the love between the bride and groom. Having a good DJ, videographer, and photographer made the experience what it was and created a seamless wedding day.
