Private Boathouse Event Styling

With large events being a rarity in 2020, many couples have been rethinking their wedding plans and looking at how to have a more intimate celebration without sacrificing the chance to create an elegant setting for their closest friends and family.

Our friends at Stori Events are experts in styling events both big and small and we were particularly impressed with what they managed to achieve on a limited budget at a private boathouse in a prime location on Lake Magog, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.

The modern private boathouse was renovated and landscaped into a dream setting, where one could host an unforgettable elopement, engagement and/or intimate celebration.

With the natural light flooding into the space & the still waters, guests have the opportunity to enjoy uninterrupted views and complete serenity.

Jessy from Stori Events tells us, “We had the privilege of working alongside White Bird Photography and Elle Aimes Les Fleurs, in creating a muted artful and sophisticated Ceremony and Dinner.

Thinking beyond the ubiquitous dining, we instead incorporated seating that is both comfortable and unique. Used various florals; pampas grass, fried florals, and pops of white roses feeling cohesively tonal with the mood and decor.

Also, taking cues from our location, we were able to create a tablescape display that featured various finds from our own personal homes. The entity of the setting at a minimal cost.”

Thanks to Jessy and Laurence at Stori Events for sharing their unique vision with us. If you’re planning an intimate event of your own sometime soon, make sure you get in touch with them to see if they can make it extra special.

Introducing…. L’S Event Creation

L’S Event Creations

Planning a wedding in 2018 can be a daunting task. We are all busy and it’s all too easy to allow things to become overwhelming. Couples should enjoy the whole process of getting married, including the planning, so many busy couples look for a relaible wedding planner to take some of the pressure off and make sure the day itself runs smoothly.

Liliane Yan runs L’S Event Creation and is a WPIC certified wedding planner based here in Montreal. She has a B.Com in Marketing and a certification in Event & Wedding Planning. Her team may be small but they say they are built for big events; tackling every detail to deliver any needs on your special day so that you don’t have to!

We caught up with Liliane to find out more about how couples and wedding planners work together to create something truly special.

Hi Liliane. What can you tell our readers about your business?

My name is Liliane Yan, I’m a certified event planner based in Montreal, Canada. I am working full time at an international organization and running my personal event planning business named L’S Event Creation.

How would you sum up your style?

I would say my style is minimalist with a modern twist. My pet peeves are trite ideas, tacky décor, disorganization, and dishonorable personalities.

What challenges do you usually face when planning for a wedding?

There are always different challenges in each wedding. My role in the whole planning process is to ease off the pressure on couples’ shoulder and make sure they can enjoy every little moment as the day went by and get a good grasp of the beautiful thing that is happening to them, their wedding.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Everything is an inspiration and each moment is a feast. I get inspired by everything that is happening around me, it could be a pattern on a floor, a quote from a book, a lyric from a music, and so on.

L’S Event Creation

What advice do you offer couples in the run-up to the wedding day?

Setting up a realistic budget is very important and don’t wait to the last minute to consult with a wedding planner.

How early do brides need to think about booking their planner?

The sooner the better. It depends on what kind of services that the couple is looking for, is it a full wedding coordination, a month coordination or just a bit of help?

Where can we find you online?

What are your ambitions for the company?

Life is a long journey and it’s about learning and experiencing. I hope I will have the privilege to be part of all the wonderful love stories and be able to create the dream day for future brides and grooms.

What do you do for fun when not planning events?

Sometimes I get really busy between a full-time job and special projects. If I don’t need to work or plan any events, I just love to stay at home, work on some home décor projects, drink a cup of hot tea, enjoy a movie and just chill. Well, I will never get bored since my active toddler always keeps me busy from Monday to Sunday. 🙂

It sounds like life is always full of adventure for Liliane and we would like to thank her for finding time in amongst all of that to chat with MTL Wedding Blog.

We asked head stylist Victoria Lafleur all about their approach to making weddings look amazing!

What first inspired you to start your business?
Wanting to start something for myself. I have always been creative and was looking for the right outlet for my ideas. I was tired of working the 9-5 cubicle job with no way to move up and always being criticized. I have always loved antiques and vintage pieces so I thought it would be the perfect fit. When I was young I would draw, collect, create scrapbooks and work with my dad on projects around the house. It’s in my blood!

What words best describe the kind of work you do?
Handmade, Vintage, Custom, Unique, Boho, Personalized, client friendly…

What are some of your favourite pieces and why?
I love all my inventory! Very proud of how many pieces we’ve accumulated over the years. But I really love my barn tables (made by my dad!)

Do you have any great tips that you’ve learned over your years in the business?
You get what you pay for! Its not always worth it to get a deal as you dont always know what the result will be. Sometimes you have to pay that extra little to make your special day what you envisioned it to be. Also, having a stylist or coordinator to help take care of decorating your event is a godsend. So many couples want to take on this challenge on their own and quickly realize how overwhelming it can become. Asking friends and family to help is not always the best hypnotics idea either. Leave it to the experts!

How far in advance of a wedding should couples contact you?
We should start working about 6 months in advance. We can add and remove items as we go along but its good to book early!

What do you find to be the biggest challenge/most difficult part of your job?
The most difficult part of my job would be balancing home life with work life. As I also work full time as a head designer I find that there are not enough hours in the day. Weeknights are filled with client meetings and deliveries and weekends are booked with wedding set-ups and take-downs. I have weddings from May to October almost every single weekend so its hard to have time to spend with my dogs, family and my better half. But as it slows down in winter I get to enjoy the snow, thankfully I enjoy it!

weddings-montreal-197

What happens if something gets damaged on the wedding day?
We are very comprehensive that a plate could break or a glass could chip. We charge three times the rental price but often because we are so understanding, we do not charge our clients. Mistakes happen!

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not creating your pieces?
I love the outdoors and spending time doing sports and activities. I walk my two dogs almost every night in some little woods near our house. I love running, kayaking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, biking, hiking, reading, wathcing movies and spending time with friends and family.

Finally, can you name five wedding vendors you recommend to clients?
Héra Mariages – Planner
Sonia Bourdon Photographie
Lalor Photography
ImagineJoy – Calligraphy
Susan Morales – Make-up
Gat-O-cakes
